As someone who has been in business for almost 30 years, after starting in 1985 at the age of 19, there is a success skill that I have seen emerge in every successful business.

In the age of the internet, some might say it’s effective online marketing, or SEO.

In the old-school era, the yellow page ad size dictated your pull of customers and interest.

But the common thread through each of these, is the success skill you need regardless of the methods you use to promote your business, and that is focus.

Especially with the dispersed methods available to promote your business ranging from your website, to social media, online ads, backlinks, articles, press releases, and much more – it is easy to run down rabbit holes and end up without prospects to close and a dwindling client base.

Despite being a down economy, opportunity is everywhere and the eager, adventurous, and desperate alike seek out the varying options that cross our inboxes every day. This adds to the confusion and attention seeking units that we need to create and maintain a successful business direction.

This is why it’s so important to have the following set for your business:
1. Your mission – what are you trying to accomplish
2. Your vision – where are you taking your business
3. Your target audience – who are you servicing and selling to
4. Your goals for 1 year and 3 years – what do you intend to achieve

When you have these established, and are operating on a daily basis with FOCUS – regardless of the methods you use, try or opportunities that arise you will know which to take advantage of, and which to dismiss so that bright shiny object syndrome doesn’t take you hostage and derail you from your dreams.
